A Vision Born Out of Resilience and Solidarity
In the aftermath of the Nigerian Civil War, visionary leaders—including Dr. Akanu Ibiam, Chief Jerome Udoji, and prominent traditional rulers—recognized the urgent need for a cohesive socio-cultural shield for the Igbo people.
Thus, in 1976, Ohanaeze Ndigbo was chartered not as a political party, but as the supreme cultural assembly and collective bargaining vanguard for Ndigbo both across Nigeria and in the global diaspora.
Over nearly five decades, the organization has consistently safeguarded human rights, preserved ancestral traditions, mediated community harmony, and advocated for infrastructure parity across Igboland.
